Constituent Assembly

• Set up according to Cabinet Mission Plan 1946
• Members were elected by provincial assemblies
• One member on an average of 10 lakh population
• First meeting 9th Dec 1946,Muslims league boycotted meeting
• Sachidanand Sinha presided the first meeting , later on Dr.Rajendra Prasad was elected the permanent president of constituent assembly
• Constitution was adopted and enacted on 26th day of Nov 1949,on this day provisions of citizenship and provisional parliament came into force
• The complete constitution came into effect on 26th day of Jan 1950
