Tools of Cyber Terrorism

Cyber terrorists use certain tools and methods to unleash this new age terrorism. These are :

(a) Hacking: The most popular method used by a terrorist. It is a generic term used for any kind of unauthorized access to a computer or a network of computers. Some ingredient technologies like packet sniffing, tempest attack, password cracking and buffer outflow facilitates hacking.

(b) Trojans: Programs which pretend to do one thing while actually they are meant for doing something different, like the wooden Trojan Horse of the 12th Century BC.

(c) Computer Viruses: It is a computer program, which infects other computer programs by modifying them. They spread very fast.

(d) Computer Worms: The term 'worm' in relation to computers is a self contained program or a set of program that is able to spread functional copies of itself or its segments to other computer systems usually via network connections.

(e) E-Mail Related Crime: Usually worms and viruses have to attach
themselves to a host program to be injected. Certain emails are used as host by viruses and worms. E-mails are also used for spreading disinformation, threats and defamatory stuff.

(f) Denial of Service: These attacks are aimed at denying authorized persons access to a computer or computer network.

(g) Cryptology: Terrorists have started using encryption, high frequency encrypted voice/data links etc. It would be a Herculean task to decrypt the information terrorist is sending by using a 512 bit symmetric encryption.

Cat got your tongue ?

Have you ever wondered why a cat's tongue feels so rough? Check out this close up shot.

A cat's tongue is covered in backwards facing spines, about 500 microns long. These are called papillae and they contain keratin (the same stuff your fingernails and hair is made of) making them quite rigid. These are used in grooming and act almost like a hairbrush.

I won't show you a photo of this, but a cat's tongue isn't the only body part to have spines. The penis has a band of about 120–150 backwards-pointing penile spines, which are about one millimeter long. These rake the inside of the females vagina, triggering ovulation.

So there you go. Now you know why a cat's tongue feels like sandpaper, and why female cats make such a loud noise when mating!

ISS

This totals 16 sunrises and 16 sunsets every 24 hours. The ISS must maintain that speed in order to stay at a low altitude.

What if earth's rotation stops ?

If the Earth had no rotational spin, there would also be no day/night cycle. Instead of a cycle lasting 24 hours, it would take 365 days. The Earth would lose its tilt, and gravity would pull the Earth into a perfect sphere.

Antibiotic enchancing Silver

Though silver has been used to help treat wounds for years, new research shows that when added to antibiotics, it can be 10-1,000 times more effective than using the antibiotic alone. Researchers hope that this could be used to help attack the ever-growing list of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Silver helps compromise the membrane of bacteria, allowing the medication to be more effective.

Coco de Mer palm

The seeds of the Coco de Mer palm tree, which is endemic to the Seychelles islands, weigh in at up to 45 pounds and require 8 years to mature and germinate.

Obesity

These two pictures show body scans of two women approximately the same age and height. The one on the left weighs 113 kg (250 lbs), while the one on the right weighs 54 kg (120 lbs). Accumulated adipose tissue is not the only difference between the two; the obese woman has an enlarged heart and her lungs are somewhat restricted.

Obesity has recently been declared a disease by the American Medical Association. While this does not have any legal ramifications, it may encourage doctors and insurance companies to take more steps in treating and preventing obesity. However, many disagree with the AMA's definition, citing that obesity is a complex issue with multiple causes and treatment options.

Obesity is defined as having a body mass index over 30 kg/m^2. It greatly increases the risk of Type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and osteoarthritis.

Plants do call out for help !

The next time you’re enjoying the fragrance of freshly mowed grass, remember that you’re actually smelling the distress call of all of those individual plants.

A group of scientists were studying wild tobacco plants when they noticed a caterpillar eating some of the leaves. Shortly after, a predatory insect came to eat the caterpillar. The scientists eventually determined that the predatory plant responded to the odor of cut leaf and came to find the caterpillar responsible for eating it. While some plants develop a natural pesticide to keep pests away, this adaptation is pretty brilliant. It allows the plant to have protection against predators without allowing the predators develop resistance to a pesticide.

The Giant Squid

Luckily, it has razor sharp teeth to properly chew its meals.

It also has the largest eyeball in the animal kingdom, measuring up to 25 cm (10 inches).

What is a gene

What is a gene?

A gene is a hereditary unit that is transformed from parents to offspring.

A distinct sequence of nucleotides forming part of chromosomes

OR

A unit of heredity composed of DNA occupied a fixed position on a chromosome. A gene may determine the characteristic of an individual by specifying a polypeptide chain that forms a protein or part of a protein.

Genes encodes RNA molecule or regulate the operation of other genes or suppress those operations.

Bionic eye

The implants are said to be capable of completely restoring sight to blind patients, but only if their blindness was caused by a faulty retina, as in macular degeneration (suffered by millions of elderly people), diabetic retinopathy or any other degenerative eye disease.

Argus II Bio-Retina
roughly four-hour procedure operation only takes about 30 minutes can be done under local anesthesia.
Costing around $115,000  cost of about $60,000
  • involves the installation of an antenna behind the affected eye that works in with a pair of camera-equipped glasses, which send signals to the antenna.
  • The antenna is wired into the retina which creates display for the brain to interpret.
  • does not incorporate an external camera but instead utilizes a vision-restoration sensor that is actually placed inside the eye, on top of the retina.
